I came across your profile while [researching companies in [Industry] / reading your post about [Topic] / speaking with [Mutual Connection]]. I was impressed by [specific detail about their work, company, or content]. I'm particularly interested in [area of overlap or shared interest], and I think there could be some value in connecting. Would you be open to a brief 15-minute call sometime in the next week or two? I'd love to hear more about your experience with [specific topic] and share a bit about what I'm working on. Either way, thanks for your time -- I appreciate it. Best regards, [Your Name] [Your Title] [LinkedIn Profile URL]
Customization Tips
- Replace the subject line bracket with something specific -- a mutual connection's name, a shared alma mater, or a topic they recently posted about.
- Reference something concrete about their work. Avoid vague flattery like "I admire your career." Instead, mention a specific project, article, or company milestone.
- Adjust the ask based on your goal. If you want advice, say so directly. If you want to explore collaboration, frame it that way.
- Keep it under 150 words. Networking emails that run long get skipped.
When to Use This Template
- After finding a relevant contact on LinkedIn or at a conference
- When a mutual connection suggests you reach out to someone
- When you want to build relationships in a new industry or role
- Before attending an event where you know certain people will be present
Best Practices
Send on Tuesday through Thursday mornings for the highest open rates.
Follow up once after 5-7 days if you don't hear back -- then move on.
Never attach your resume in a networking email unless specifically asked.
Use their first name, not "Dear Sir/Madam" or "To Whom It May Concern."
If you have a mutual connection, lead with that -- it immediately builds trust.

This template is for first-touch outreach to someone who does not know you. The goal is not to close a deal in one email -- it is to earn a reply. That means leading with relevance, showing you did your homework, and making the ask small enough that responding feels easy.
Send this within a few hours of your interview or meeting. A strong thank-you email does more than express gratitude -- it reinforces your fit, addresses anything you wish you had said differently, and keeps you top of mind when decisions are being made.
